Yesterday we began with Miriam and her song and dance ... today the dance continues ... step together 1-2-3 ... a gentle turn, let us look and see ... where will He lead us today in this dance?
As I sat drinking my morning coffee, watching the news, I was suddenly hit by the topic to which the news turned ... murmurations! WOW!! For anyone who is not familiar with this term, as I wasn't until recently, it is when the starlings "dance across the sky" every evening before resting in their trees ... and just like the hummingbird above these words, my heart gave a "hhmmmmmmm" ... The guest sitting on the sofa of BBC breakfast went on to say how it is not certain as to why it is called murmurations ... starlings do not actually murmur ... hhhhmmmmmm ... and as I watched them fly across the sky in the clip being shown, my heart burst with a most joyful ...
The murmurings of the children of Israel immediately dropped into my heart and as I think about those starlings now as I type, my heart whispers in agreement with the One who placed the stars in the sky ... "yes, we can either choose to dance or to murmur ..." my heart cries, "Abba, Father, please teach us to dance! I just want to dance!" I was recently told by someone who works nearby that they have Laurel bushes in their work yard, and every evening the starlings perform their dance across the sky before settling down on their laurels ... "hhmmmmmm ... I wonder if that is where the expression 'resting on our laurels comes from?" So ... let us follow this trail and see where His footsteps will lead us ... Are you ready, are you steady ...
Let's dance ...
If we go back to where we were yesterday, in Sh'mot (Exodus) 15:24, we see that the people murmured against Moshe. So let us now look at some of the roots of that word, "murmur."
As I searched the 19 scripture references for the word "murmured," I found that most in the Hebrew pointed back to the same root ... the Hebrew word "luwn" which means "Lodge." The scriptures referenced were mostly to do with the people murmuring against the leadership G-D had placed over them. But then I got to Deuteronomy 1:27 where it speaks of "murmuring in your tents" ... hhhhhmmmmm ... there were two new words used in defining "murmured" in this context - they were "whisper" and "backbite." And it occurred to me ... "these murmurings were against G-D Himself, the people doubting His promises given to them through Moshe ... "were they doubting the very character of HaShem?" The enemy's tactic never changes, as he caused Eve to question the same back in the beginning. I encourage you to follow the trail and see what treasure He leads you to find ... Happy Trails ; )
And in the greek, I found that most references pointed to Strong's #1111 and much around "what is murmured in the secret places." But then came Mark 14:5 ... the woman with the Alabastar Box. This woman was actually doing something quite profound (Mark 14:8) ... but the scriptures tell us "there were some who had indignation within themselves." When looking at the root of the word indignation, I found "the bent arm" ... I can only just imagine those who didn't approve or understand, folding their arms in indignation ... and yet ... we read what happened from there ... Yeshua even goes on to say that what this woman did for Him would be remembered as a memorial to her ... WOW!!! My heart whispers in agreement with the One who was anointed to preach good tidings to the poor, to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives ... the One who opens the doors of the prison to those who are bound ... My heart cries in agreement ...
"Praise Yah!!! Praise Yah!!"
"Yeshua, You know the very beat of our hearts, You hear every thought and every cry from the deepest of places hidden within us ... You understand ... and you give us understanding when we choose to look to you in all things ... but ... You also long to move us from a place of murmuring to that place of dancing, just like the starlings who dance through the evening sky just before darkness falls ... teach us to dance ... please Yeshua, come to Your bride as Bridegroom and teach us to dance to the beat of Your heart ... this is my heart's cry!"
So ... where does all this link up? Not sure yet, so let's keep dancing ...
" ... shall we?"
I look and I see those starlings once more ... not only do I see a dance, but I see a river that flows free, streaming across the sky causing those who watch to BE STILL as they look on with wonder and amazement! I wonder what it would sound like since the starlings do not murmur? I imagine the sound of rushing wind as they soar through the sky ... something tells me I am going to have to visit those local laurel bushes where I can stop, look and listen for myself ... so watch this space ; ) For now, I look again and I see that river made up of many parts, but all flowing together as One in Yeshua ... joining together in this glorious dance across the sky for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear ... a glorious dance being formed, choreographed by the Hand of the One we call Majesty!
So ... Let us finish where we began ... let's see ...
Murmurations and murmerings, dancing and bowing, breaking expectations of man in the same way that woman broke the alabaster box in plain sight for all those who would see. My heart proclaims before my G-D ... There is a place where we can pour out our hearts, in plain sight before our G-D. A safe place where we can dance with Him as we embark on a journey of healing and restoration ... discipleship! "But how? and what does that look like?" is the whisper I hear coming from hearts afar" ... I tell you, there is a place where healing can be found in such depth of heart and spirit that it moves us forward to where we were meant to be all along ... right by His side. There is a place where restoration is made possible ... as the temple of G-D longing to be restored in the heart of Jerusalem, there is a temple HaShem longs to restore within the hearts of His people ... a HOLY and set apart place where He can dwell forever. But there is a cost we must consider ... Luke 14:25-35; grace is not cheap, nor is holiness ... it cost Yeshua everything, His blood shed that we would be able to enter in and sup with Him.
I am reminded of Miriam once again, standing at the edge of Sea of Reeds, singing and dancing as all of G-D's people were preparing to step into the wilderness. Are we prepared to step into the wilderness when He calls us forth ... I tell you, there is great treasure to be found in this place from which we often run ... it is a place where we learn to trust G-D in a way we have never had to before ... and it is this place that trains us for the work we have yet to accomplish when we reach the promised land ... wherever, whatever that means for each and every one of us on this earth.
Time is short and the days are getting dark ... may we be found to be like those starlings from where today's entry began ... gathering together at His appointed times as darkness approaches, in His name and according to His plans and purposes, found safe within the boundaries of His instruction (Torah) and among others of like mind and heart and yet in all its diversity ... many different parts but soaring together through the clouds as One body in Messiah ... ECHAD! in Yeshua HaMashiach! Amen and Amen ...
Those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run
and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
Bless you much, see you next time ... keeeeeep dancing ; )
